Hardwood or Tile Floors
"Heavy Duty" felt
pads are used to prevent your desk from damaging your hardwood or tile
floors. You may purchase them at your local hardware store like Home
Depot, Lowe's, etc. You will want to purchase enough to place one pad
under every point of the desk. Please call Customer Service for
assistance.

Pre-wire for your desk delivery
To make wiring your desk easier, we instruct our customer to prepare
3 wires for their desk. It'll be tough for you to move your desk after
the delivery crew installs it where you wish. We recommend you have your
Internet access (cord), an extension cord or surge protector and a
phone/fax cord installed into the proper wall outlets. When the delivery
guys bring the desk in, you'll pull these 3 cords though the tower (CPU)
section of the desk; from the rear and let them dangle out the front.
These three cords will give power to the equipment you put into the
desk.

Pre-wire for your hutch delivery
Depending on where your outlet is located, you may need an extension
cord to give power to the light fixtures in your hutch. The Enthusiast
and Signature Series have light fixtures with the cords tucked inside of
the housing. Pull the cord out (about 3 feet) run it down the back of
the hutch through the wire access hole and either plug it into your wall
outlet or the prepared extension cord. Then let the delivery guys set
your hutch into place.

Power Management system
The power manger can be removed for easier access to its rear
outlets. First the cord needs to be unraveled. If the unit sits inside
of a drawer then you may want to remove that drawer for better viewing.
In some cases, due to it fitting snug into its designated area, you may
need to remove lower drawers to reach your arm behind it. Do this to
push it forward enough for you to grip the front of it.
After you've pulled it out, be sure to feed all your component wires
through the space you just pulled the power manager out of. This is so
you can place the power manager back in to its designated space to be
concealed.
|
|
Short cords
On many of our desks the distance between your components is a
greater distance than most cords will reach. Extension cords for your
keyboard, mouse, monitor and printer are available at your local
computer store.

Printer pullout tray/upper drawer lock release
Always extend the drawer or shelf, out as far as it'll go. Your left
and right side glides are identical. Looking straight on at the glide,
you'll see the outer glide sleeve (attached to the desk) then the inner
glide (attached to the drawer or shelf). Where they meet (roughly in the
middle), you'll see a black plastic tab jetting out from the outer glide
into the inner glide. Push on it (up or down) and you'll see it moves.
Standing in front of the drawer or shelf you will push the left side up
and the right side down. You will do this and pull the drawer or shelf
out simultaneously.
|

|
Re-installation
Pull the outer glide sleeves as far out as they can go. Be sure to
line up the inner glides to the outer glides then push them in. They may
give you some resistance but will go back in. If it stops and you have
more than a little resistance then you don't have the glides lined up
properly.

File drawer lock release (2 part)
Most file drawers are shipped with transportation screws in them. In
order to remove the drawer, these screws need to be removed. Pull one of
the file drawers out as far and it'll extend. Your left and right side
glides are identical. First, you're going to view and comprehend the way
this glide is setup because it's important. Looking straight on at the
glide, you'll see the outer glide sleeve (attached to the desk) then the
inner glide (attached to the drawer). Looking at the inner glide, notice
there are (about) 5 screws going across the top part of that glide.
Never take these out. At the front of the inner glide, notice the
vertical, black plastic tab. This is the lock release. Next, below upper
screws (middle area) on the inner glide, you'll see 1 screw just behind
the vertical, black plastic tab. This is the shipping screw. Remove this
1 screw from the left and right drawer glide.
*Note: Look to the back of the drawer (dovetail), top area. Notice
that the metal has ridges and the small ridged finger (hook) goes over
the smooth part of the glide. When you go to re-install the drawer, make
sure the smooth part of the inner glide goes under the ridged finger!
Stand over the file drawer, place your four fingers of both hands
under both sides if the drawer along the front. Place your thumbs
against the top (upper) part of the vertical, black plastic tab. Push in
with your thumbs, lift up and out with your four fingers of both hands.
|

|
Re-installation
Pull the outer glide sleeves as far out as they can go. Be sure to
place the smooth part of the inner glide under the ridged finger. Then
set the drawer case down and click it into place (locking it in). You do
not have to replace the transportation screws.

Taking care of your order:

Protecting your desk top
There are certain rubber products with chemicals in them that react badly
to wooden tops. If left on the wood for a long period of time, it'll leave a
"burn" type mark, deeply embedded in the wood. It isn't known which rubber products contain these chemicals. We recommend placing felt
pads under all items you plan to leave on the desk top.

Cleaning your order
Any furniture cleaning products are okay to use on our furniture. We
recommend for best results, a product called Feed-N-Wax. We've used it
for many years and it's the only product we use on our furniture. You
may find a retailer at www.howardproducts.com

Planning to use a protective cover over your work surface
We don't suggest using a protective cover on our furniture because
they really don't need the extra protection. Some customers are accustom
to using protective covers on their furniture. If you plan to use any
protective covers over your desk (i.e. Plexiglas, glass, leather, etc.)
then you will need to put spacers in between the protective cover and
the desk top. Wood needs to breath. If the spacers aren't used then the
protective cover will adhere and strip the wood. Please call Customer
Service for assistance.
